Home for Christmas!

I just flew in to Michigan for Christmas! I am very excited to be back home, spending time with family and friends and experiencing some cold weather! Hopefully it snows soon - I want to use my parka.

When we pulled in to the drive way, my sister told me there was a surprise waiting inside. I really had no idea, so when Gracie took off the coat from Luke's arms, I saw her: a new puppy! She is very cute, friendly and cuddly. My sister recorded my reaction: I was in disbelief. Mom and dad have been talking about getting another dog for a while, but I didn't realize how serious they were about it!

Decemberrrrrrrrr... actually I'm still sweating.

I'm coming home for Christmas and I am so excited for snow!!! It makes drinking hot chocolate that much betterrrrrrr.

Thanksgiving with a Brit!

About two weeks ago, I wrote about a Disney intern I met at Disney. Her name is Meena. During our conversation, I learned she felt like she had not fully experienced American culture. After a while, I decided to extend an invitation to Meena to spend Thanksgiving with me and my roomates. I wasn't sure she would accept, but I hoped she would. I remembered the kindness and hospitality French people showed to me when I was living in France and wanted to do the same for Meena.

To my happy surprise, Meena decided to come! The night before Thanksgiving, I picked up Meena from her apartment and we went grocery shopping for Thanksgiving deserts! We made apple pie and chocolate pilgrim hat cookies. Thanksgiving morning, we watched the Macy’s parade with friends. Around lunchtime, we joined my roommate’s church in hosting a Thanksgiving lunch for people who live in a trailer park. We made the kids gospel bracelets. It was so cool to watch Meena, who is still seeking a personal relationship with God, explain to the kids the meaning behind the gospel bracelets. On our way home, Meena shared that she liked giving back to the community.

Me and Meena at the trailer park Thanksgiving outreach.

After we watched some football and took a nap, we headed to my friend’s home for dinner. One of the other guests there was a woman named Bryn. She was so warm, welcoming and engaging. It was apparent she is a woman of God because as she spoke with us, I could see the Holy Spirit using her to love and care for Meena by asking intriguing questions. I even felt like I walked away from the conversation, wanting to know God on a deeper level. Later when we got home, Meena brought up some of the things we had talked about with Bryn and we were able to discuss them further – grace, not being perfect, God’s work in our lives.

Meena and me with our apple pie!

I so enjoyed the time I spent with Meena over the Thanksgiving break. It made me take a fresh look and why we celebrate. It was also just fun to hang out with Meena - she is a very sweet girl. Tonight, we are going out to dinner together to the American restaurant The Cheesecake Factory at her request :)

Thanksgiving Outreach

Man, this past Saturday was a long and full day! We hosted Thanksgiving for the international Disney interns. We had 110 people feast and celebrate this holiday of appreciation. 85 internationals were there and of them, 17 were European -- 10 FRENCH PEOPLE!!! I was honestly amazed!

In our time spent at Disney, we as the European team, have had a hard time building relationships with the interns outside of Disney. They are very friendly and happy to see us when we come to their pavilion during the week, but usually are unavailable or uninterested in hanging out apart from Disney. So, we as the European team were so excited that so many Europeans came to this event.

One of my jobs was to drive interns to and from the event. There and back, I drove a couple French interns. On the way back, our conversation led to sharing the gospel! One of the girls was asking me where I work - which lead to explaining Cru, and Campus Crusade for Christ International - which lead to telling them about Cru in France/Europe which is called Life Agape - which lead to me trying to explain the word Agape - which went into a verrrry brief lesson of the Greek word - which lead to using it in an example = the Agape (unconditional love) of God through sending His Son to pay for our sins. It was cool :)

God's faithfulness - Pray BIG or go home.

God is just so good, faithful and wants to invest in the lives of His children.

Last week, before our Friday Disney day, I was praying for God to do something big. In the past, these Friday's have been pretty good, but I've felt myself relying on my own abilities to engage in conversations with interns. In realizing that, I feel that the "fruits of my labor" have been small. I have a BIG God, so why not fully rely on HIS abilities?

I kid you not, the first conversation of the day that I had, God blew me away. I met a girl named Meena who is from the UK and has been interning for 9 months. In our conversation, she shared with me about her families spiritual background - her dad is Buddhist and her mom is Catholic. She does not specifically identify with either, but acknowledges there is a God.

"So, is it easy for you?" she asked, regarding my journey of being a Christ follower. It seemed to be an opportunity for me to share my story with her and briefly explain the gospel. She was intrigued and wants to meet up for coffee sometime this coming week! I am thankful God has given me another international friend!

Distance Coaching Conference

This past month, I was assigned to be the conference administrator for a group of about 40. I worked with the conference speaker/host on the pre-conference tasks like creating the registration website, booking the hotel rooms and organizing meals. I liked doing this because I feel it got my "feet wet" to real conference planning.

These leaders came to Cru head quarters for Distance Coaching Training. Via Skype, email and over the phone, these leaders coach students and volunteers to lead movements of evangelism and discipleship on their campuses. Since these campuses don’t have full time staff, they depend on the leadership of students and volunteers. The coaching they receive is very important for impacting the lives of students involved in these new and growing ministries!

Something my supervisor has said before, '...the work we do in conference and event planning, sends missionaries, who build movements and leaders that fulfill the great commission.' Working on this conference has helped me see that.

French Friends

A few weeks ago, I missed a Disney friday due to an event at headquarters. A week or so later, I had a Disney "make-up" day on a Wednesday with a teammate, Evangeline and her daughter Annada. Usually, I never go on Wednesdays!

I ate lunch at the Paris pavilion and ended up meeting a french girl named Pauline. She studied at a university near by and came back to American for the Disney intern program. I mentioned to her I had just moved back from France and wanted to practice my french! Sort of hinting at the idea of hanging out :) I think she caught on because she said "If I wanted to hang out with French people, I would move back to France. I want to meet more Americans!"

We ended up exchanging phone numbers and I invited her to the Halloween party. Unfortunately, she was working late that night and couldn't come. A few days after the party, she texted me and invited me to hang out! I was pretty excited because this was the first intern I've met who has shown an interest in hanging out OUTSIDE of when I see them at Disney. I drove to Disney, picked her up at her apartment and we went out to a restaurant to chat about life. She is a honest person and not afraid to share her views. She speaks English really well! We talked about fun things to do in Orlando, making friends, dating - which lead to what qualities we look for in guys, and eventually the topic of marriage! She told me about her job and asked about mine. It was interesting for me to explain to her about support raising and that my job wants me to stay. On my way home, after I dropped her off at her place, Pauline sent me a text thanking me for hanging and hoping to again soon!

Pauline is also kind of an answer to prayer because when I found out I was accepted to YearOne, I prayed I would meet a French girl who would want to be my friend. I am excited to spend more time with her as the year continues.

Day 67

67 days here already. Recently, I've taken a little time to reflect on this year so far. I'm happy to say I've see myself grown in areas of need, and also see God provide in different ways - community, outside friendships, learning more about who He is as a relational God.

Last Thursday, I went out sharing with one of the Cru staff, who's campus happens to be Disney. We spoke with this newly married gal, who was very colorful with her words and anecdotes.

As we spoke, we learned she had become a believer at a young age. In conversation, her references to God were truths I've known my whole life... yet God seemed to use her to minister to me!

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

Matthew 11:28-29

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

1 John 4:19
We love him, because he first loved us.

Luke 12:7
Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

It was a sweet and humbling moment when I realized God was teaching me something through this conversation with a stranger. Because He is a relational God and cares deeply about each one of us He has created. He knows me better than I know my self. Its a wild and peaceful thought.

Prayer

Cute.

Also cute.

When you say "I'll be praying for you", how long does that commitment mean? Till the prayer is answered? As often as you think of them?

I recently found myself saying that (and wanting to mean it) to a couple people. As I was thinking about it, 'for how long am I really committing to praying for'?

Someone told me once that if you see a stranger who looks like someone you know, maybe God is prompting you to pray for them. My junior year of college, I often saw this guy who looked like my friend Sanjay - who at the time, was undergoing major health issues. Taking that suggestion to mind, I found myself praying for Sanj often.

The concept of prayer is pretty unique. We can talk to the Creator of the universe at any time, not matter the circumstances, subject matter, language, or timezone. He's ready and waiting. I personally know I don't utilize this enough.

So, the next time you offer to pray for someone, think of it as sharing your concern and asking for a blessing from the Maker of all.

Psalm 55:17
Evening and morning, and at noon, I will pray and cry aloud; and He shall hear my voice.

Romans 8:26
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

Hebrews 4:16
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Ministry at Epcot

Each Friday is our "campus ministry" day. It is unique to other interns experiences because the "students" we talk with are interning at Epcot. There are over 5,000 international interns working at Disney - all starting at various times of the year, so the turn over is relatively quick.

We start in the morning, most importantly in the word together for a devotion. This gets our hearts and minds ready and focused on what's most important - obeying God and bringing Him glory - specifically in our soon-to-follow-ministry. We then have a training time on ways to approach Disney interns, road blocks we may face, creative conversation starters, etc. We then branch out in to our teams: Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America.

We then head to the park to eat lunch as a team and pray for each country before walking around and talking with interns about their specific countries. The strategic part is figuring out how to bridge natural conversation to spiritual content. I am SO EXCITED to be focused on the French interns. I feel I can relate to them as I just got back from France, learning a new culture, making new friends, not having a car and even being new to Orlando. I've become facebook friends with several of them and I am hoping to practice French/English with them. I am hoping God will soften their hearts toward Him in the process.

This Friday, after our day of ministry, my roommates and I decided to walk around Epcot. One of my roommates, who is on team Africa, made a friend with a girl from Morocco. It was great to spend time with her and learn more about her life in Morocco, her culture, how she likes her internship and her experience here in America. Spending time with her was so great! It got me excited for the future friendships I know God has in store for this year.

Fall

Fall here in Orlando is very different than the traditional Falls of Michigan I have grown up with. In fact, it's more like August weather daily - with the addition to daily showers at 4:30 p.m. When flying home last weekend (I was in on of my closest friends wedding) I took this picture:

Cool huh?

Anyways, recently, I have found myself "grieving" a little for the "normal" falls I have grown accustom to. The reds, oranges, yellows and browns of the changing leaves;
a glass of cold apple cider and a spice donut after a day of picking apples at Erwin's Orchard;
raking and jumping into the big piles of crunchy, fallen leaves;

even going to a football game or 10.
I hope you appreciate these things even more just for my sake! :)

Je manque la France

Today, some of my previous team, Chelsea, Eric and Nalani, along with their new team, landed in France today to begin their second year. I am a little sad I am not with them, but I know God has me here in Orlando for a bigger reason.

Today in my part of the office, we are having SMOOTHIE DAY! Smoothie King is coming in to make smoothies for those who work in the National Campus Office. My department, the conference and event team, helps plan days like this. Our goal is to make the office an enjoyable place to work and build community within the whole office - there are over 1,000 employees who work here at head quarters!

Prayer requests:
- I would find a church to get plugged into
- Meet some French girls at Epcot to practice French
- Getting officially settled into my new housing

Consensus: I need to take more pictures

Last year on STINT, of the 40 weeks I was living in France, I averaged 33 pictures a day. In the 3 weeks I have been here in Orlando, I think I have taken a total of 33 pictures. LAME!

This past weekend, I actually flew home for the wedding of my dear friend, Jennifer Flieman, now Visser! Jenn and I met through Campus Crusade, and became great friends on Summer Project (Yeahhh 08 VA Beach!). Brandon was there too!

It was an honor to stand up with them on their special day as they began the journey of marriage. As I have watched Jenn and Brandon's relationship unfold, I have constantly seen them pursue God individually, as well as making Him a priority in their relationship. I am excited to see how God uses them in ministry in the future. These two people are sold out for Jesus, are genuine people and love to have fun! Here is a video from their wedding ...

ORLANDO!

Hi Friends!

Last Friday, I began my journey down to Campus Crusade headquarters. I got to stay with some friends along the way. Splitting up the drive made it bearable. I was excited to get down to Orlando, meet my team and start my job!

I arrived Sunday evening, meeting all of my roommates (Sara, Erin and Sharon). I unloaded, freshened up, and with my new roommates, headed to the guy interns house for our celebration dinner. It was great to meet my new team and hear a little bit about how God lead them to this unique internship.

The next morning started our 3 day retreat filled with, planning, vision casting, games and team norms. I think we gelled pretty well. During the tail end of our retreat, we met the ministry team serving at Disney (YES, there is a team of people who's focus is Disney. Think about it, over 5,000 international employee's cycling through each year? It's the nations coming to us!). They were every enthusiastic and excited for us to be joining them every Friday. I am looking forward to this too because I am hoping to meet several French girls who I can practice French with, but more importantly show them God's overwhelming love for them.

The days following the retreat have been "unpack and set up life" time. I spent some time at the local DMV yesterday getting my Florida Driver's license (defiantly not as nice looking as Michigan, but I may be biased) :) .

I am looking forward to going to church tomorrow and meeting some of the locals and getting plugged in. We'll see what this new week will bring, cause this last one was jam packed with many new experiences!

Here are a few photos:

Some of my family the morning I left.
The Cline Family - I stayed with them in Atlanta, Georgia.

FLORIDA!

My new bike which I plan on riding to work which is about half a mile away.

Home... and not a day too soon!

Wow! I am so thankful for God's timing.

Early Wednesday morning, I lugged all my suitcases (5 of them!) - (with the help of Sarah and Beth) into the car and headed to the airport with Beth and Chelsea. Our Paris to Chicago flight went well and we even arrived early. Chelsea and I watched the Justin Beiber movie a couple times :)

Once I landed in Detroit, my parents, sisters and grandma were waiting for me. They even brought my dog, Rocky! It was great to see them all. They had American flags, flowers and a sign saying "Welcome home Hannah!" And, as some of you might know, my sister Olivia was pregnant - so other passengers commented, asking them if they were waiting for a solider to come home for the birth of his child. Haha! Nope, just me.

Instead of going straight home, I went and visited with some family friends I grew up with - the Hatfields. Kelli had just got engaged and Katie had a baby while I was in France! It was my first time to meet little Laedin! He is so cute! I ended up staying up until 1am Michigan time = 7 am France time! It was totally worth it.

THE NEXT DAY, - after we had taken some family pictures since we all knew Addison would be born soon - Olivia, my sister, got a call from the doctors office wanting to see her to check her fluid levels. I went with Olivia to the check up, and they told her she needed to have the baby! We came home, packed some bags, and Olivia went with Mom and Dad to the hospital.

Gracie, Joel, Luke and I were waiting at home for the call to come, when the time was nearer for the delivery. We didn't want to crowd the room too much! Dad called and said he would call again early in the morning. I was so tired and jet legged...

8 a.m. Dad called us - I was already awake since my body was telling me it was 2 p.m. AND I was super excited!!! - time to come in! We picked up Noah, Addison's brother and got to the hospital at 9:30 a.m.

They broke Olivia's water and 10:20 a.m. and the contractions started to increase immediately. Olivia went from 5 cm to 10 cm in under and hour (which is abnormal for first time mothers! Usually it's more like 1 cm per hour!) At 11:45 a.m. Addison Olivia was born! This was the first delivery I have ever seen. The miracle of birth is breath taking. The burst of life, emotion, joy!

Yesterday was a whirlwind of pictures, doctors, laughs, smiles and THE SMELL OF A NEW BABY! Addison is so cute! She looks just like Olivia and is very healthy. I am excited to be able to still be a part of her life as she grows and grows.

I want to take some time to thank God for allowing me to be here for this. It was my prayer since I found out seven months ago. Not only was I able to be here for the birth, but Addison is healthy, beautiful and sweet as can be. I can't wait to show her off to the world! He not only answered my prayer, but allowed me to be apart of this beautiful start of life! Thank you Lord!

Ending

So STINT is officially done. We had our last night of 'debrief' today. It was a good start to processing all I have learned, experienced, and the ways I have grown. I know there is still much more to process. We ended the night by watchingI made a 45 minute slideshow of pictures, video and inside jokes. It was happy and sad. (This is a picture of my team minus Katie, with our STINT coaches, Chrissy and Mike.)

Since France is a developed country, I am not sure what "culture shocks" I will experience. Yes, they do have flushing toilets. Yes, they do take Saturday and Sunday as their weekend. Yes, they have farmer's markets. Yes, I could wear short sleeve shirts. Yes, I could buy Honey Nut Cheerios.

Time will tell... less than 8 days till I fly home! "What will you be doing?" you might ask. Lots of packing, good byes, wrap up meetings at the office with my supervisors, helping my teammates -who are returning- move into their new house, seeing the Eiffel Tower one last time...

This journey is not over! This summer, I am excited to share with everyone stories, pictures, and videos from this past year. And share a vision for where God is leading me next!

I would love your prayers for:
- Processing
- Ending well
- Safety traveling

Love,
Hannah

Media Conference Day 1

“It is beautiful that we serve God. He gave us so much and we can give back to Him.” – Aaron, a national staff.

Today was the first official day of our media focused conference. This being the third time in one of our countries, I recognized and knew many familiar faces. It was nice to be acknowledged too. Even though I am specifically one of the administrators of this conference, there are also times I can participate in the lectures and discussions.

This evening, I was talking with one of our staff about "online missionaries". What a cool idea! I've heard of the concept, but discussing this with him, really fueled my fire for some reason. Here is the general idea: First, one is trained in the process of responding. Then, you start receiving emails - which are sent to them based on their "missionary profile" - demographics, location, language, etc. You can choose how many emails you want each day or week. He said, when they talk with people about becoming an "online missionary", he challenges them to just 15 minutes a day in correspondence. Finally, you check your inbox each day and respond! It is really simple, easy and spiritually fulfilling!

"It helps you grow in your faith also. You must look deeper for passages to answer their questions. When you seek for them, you seek for yourself too" he said.

Be encouraged and challenged!

Home Stretch

Well friends, as of yesterday, I have one month left overseas. Of those two weeks, I only have 2 more weeks in the office! Last week especially, I kept having bursts of emotion: Excited - to be home with family and friends! Sad - knowing I may never see my French friends again. Curious - what "culture shock" will I experience. Stoked - for new experience in Orlando!

I am amazed at how fast this year has flown by. Seriously. I was just telling a co-worker, when I was a little girl, the drive from Michigan to Ontario, Canada felt like the same distance to Sarasota, Florida. Just a reminder of how short our time here on earth is. MAKE IT COUNT!

It's weird, it doesn't get dark here until around 10pm. Crazy right? I guess, this is as far north, as I have ever lived. During the winter, I'd walk to work at dusk, and walk home in the dark (with my roommates. Don't worry mom, I was safe!) Now it's quite the opposite! That's just a recent observation ... :)

As I start to prepare for this summer, there is lots to do! I'll be working at a conference in Colorado during late July, attending a couple weddings, meeting with supporters to share about my time here in France and what God has in store for Orlando, and just spending time with family and friends. I hope to see you soon!

Another day in the office

I realize I spend a lot of time here. I eat two meals (breakfast and lunch), work from my computer all day, sendings endless amounts of emails, working on photoshop, excel documents, and juggling all sorts of projects.

What is cool about my job, is every Tuesday, we have a prayer meeting for one hour. How cool because it informs me of what all is going on in the regions I resource. Prayers and praises, God is moving!

Living in Europe has its perks...

This weekend, I was fortunate to travel to London, England and visit some family friends. They were so warm, generous, welcoming and accommodating! My roommate Chelsea and I got to see all the major sites in London - including riding the famous London Eye - which gives you a birds eye view of the city!

Our friends hospitality was refreshing! It reminded me that as believers, we are the body of Christ and should work as one. Jesus' idea of feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, yeah, He meant that.

I think on this Mother's Day, I want to express how much I am thankful for my mom demonstrating this through out my life. She loves to host, cook and entertain others. I appreciate all these thing about her! Your servant attitude is appreciated and I am thankful for your love. I love you mom!

Fail - 3 weeks...

People, it is hard to keep up with a blog! This past week, I was able to spend with my parents and bothers. It was their spring break and my Easter vacation so the time worked out well! I am glad they came now because it made the "see you later" easier. Only about 6 weeks till I am back in Michigan for the summer!

Just yesterday, I received "the email" of what I am going to be doing next year! It looks like God is taking me to Orlando, Florida to work at CCC's head quarters! I am pretty excited for this opportunity - but dreading the heat! One of the things we will be doing outside of the office is building relationships with international students who work at Disney. I am excited for this because I will have a very fresh perspective on being the "new" to a country, language and culture!

But for now, I want to finish out strong here in France doing what God has called me to do here.

Some random thoughts

Carrot spaghetti is an awesome creation.

Exactly how "safe" is the meat sauce you buy off a shelf? Doesn't this need to be refrigerated?

When do people start becoming 'morning' people? Does this come with age?

Everything in France, and probably Europe, is compact and small: homes, meals, cars, bathrooms, a cup of coffee, the staircases. We do like their space, but maybe the majority of Americans obese?

Also, most French people have no concept of personal space. When waiting in line, I stagger my feet, and lean in such a way to create space. I am American.

Did you know children laugh 10 times more than adults?

Google Translate is a wonderful tool.

Let me set the facts straight here, not all French people are 'Parisians'. It is the 'Parisians' that get the bad reputation, and that's pry because they are tired of the all the tourists who visit Paris and don't speak French.

I've watched every episode of LOST, but I still wonder what was up with the polar bears?

A Weekend in Amsterdam

Living in Europe has a lot of advantages. This weekend, I was able to travel to Amsterdam, Netherlands to visit the Grand Valley State Cru Spring Break team! They spent their spring break on some of the campuses in Rotterdam, doing various ministry activities with the staff of Life Agape [Campus Crusade’s International name].

My journey actually began Friday morning around 9am. My roommate and I took the train into Paris. We were meeting up with the Paris Metro team, who do campus ministry in Paris. We met Margo, one of the team members, at her apartment then headed to the university. The Life Agape staff led us, two of Margo’s teammates, and 4 students in a short devotion. We focused on prayer, the power it has, and how it can bless others. We paired up and prayer walked the campus.

I partnered with Heidi, one of the Life Agape staff. As we walked around, we approached people explaining we were praying for Paris, the campus and wanted to see if they had anything we could pray for as well.

The spiritual atmosphere of youth in Paris, well Europe in general, is very apathetic or nonexistent. Almost everyone turned us down. As we walked, Heidi brought up the story about Philip when he was led by the Spirit to a man in chariot to pray for him. Not ten minutes later, we approached this girl sitting on a bench in the garden. When we asked if there was anything we could pray for her about, she declined and said she was an atheist. Heidi noticed she was reading a bible, and asked if she had any questions about what she was reading. She said no, that it was only for class. We were still curious, so Heidi asked if she could ask one more question: “what book are you reading?” She responded “Job.” Talk about meaty stuff!

1. It is ridiculously rare to see a student reading a bible on campus, much less a non-believer!

2. I just wonder what this girl was thinking after we left – reading the bible for class, and two Christians come up and ask if there is anything they can pray for.

3. Please pray for her! We didn’t exchange names, so I’ll call her “Sofia”. Pray that God would continue to make Himself know to Sofia and that see would see that, rather than conscience. Pray also that God would lead more Christians in to Sofia’s life and that she would start having deep questions about God.

After our time of ministry was done for the day, I eventually headed to the airport to fly to Amsterdam! I was so pumped to see some old friends, hear how their week doing ministry in Rotterdam went, and share with them all about STINT and Summer Project.

During the flight, I started talking with two American girls sitting near me. They were studying abroad in Paris and headed to Amsterdam for a weekend of fun – and by fun, they meant legal drugs and partying.

To be honest, it caught me off guard. I casually tried to ask why they did drugs, being one who has never been high. “It makes life better”, “It makes me numb”, “It feels good.” I was saddened for them. In return, they asked why I was headed to Amsterdam. I saw this as an opportunity to bring up Spiritual subjects and hoped I could lead into sharing the gospel. Both had gone to church and labeled themselves as ‘Catholic’. Neither felt that it was the right time in their life to go to church or “get into that stuff.” They then bi-passed questions I followed up with, and led the conversation onto other things.

I did get these girls names: Kaitlyn and Leeda. Please also pray for them – they are trying to find satisfaction in material things. Pray that they would see that NOW is always the right time to meet with God.

Once we landed, my next task was to figure out how to get to the hotel. The information desk suggested a train then tram. I’ve learned some ‘travel smarts’ these past couple months so I knew I’d be fine.

As I walked up to the hotel, Kelsey Perras, Erin King and Curtis Blackwell were waiting for me! It was so refreshing to see them! We dropped my stuff off in the room and went out to explore and get a late dinner. Back at our room, I got caught up on life with Erin and Kels! Bless their souls; they shared their bed with me. One word: SPOONING.

The next morning, I was reunited with the rest of the group and we all headed to the Anne Frank house museum. It was really interesting to be walking through the historical place this little girl wrote in her journal of her secret, sad life. Afterwards, we all headed to a pancake place for some European style pancakes! I actually got one with spinach, garlic oil, goat cheese and pine nuts. It was so delicious!

Pancakes!

Through out the day, I was able to have many good conversations with some individuals on the team about STINT and also Summer Project. I think talking about STINT also helped me process a little what I have been doing these past 5 months. I can’t believe STINT is half over!

The next morning, the team left the hotel at 7:45 am. I walked with them to the bus stop and said our last “see you laters”, and I went back to bed! Later in the morning, I packed, checked out and walked the streets of Amsterdam in leisure.
Amsterdam
Sooo many bikes!

I got some last minute souvenirs and headed to the airport... and now I am back at my apartment, ready for another week!

Until next time...

Wait, where did February go?

As I stare at my Macbook screen, the calendar tells me it is March 7th. Life these past three months has been a blurrrr.

After my sisters visited for Christmas, I visited the grand city of ROME for a weekend with some friends from home. Definitely a city to visit. We went to all the landmarks most tourists see.
The Colosseum

It hit me, though, walking around, in and up into the Colosseum, that this is the last thing many brothers and sisters saw before seeing the Lord. Frightened, tired, ready, scared, beaten, bruised, I am sure they were ready to be done enduring these hardships.
Inside the Colosseum

It made me think of those in closed countries whose experience more modern persecution - they need our prayers!

Toward the end of January, I went to Cairo, Egypt with my boss for an operations audit. It was great to meet other staff in our company, gain a vision for what we are doing through operations on a country level and see another historical city! It was a very productive and eye-opening trip. I also rode a camel!

Praise God our trip ended 2 days before the riots and uproar began! I think God is moving despite these crises. Please be praying for the opportunities that do arise for our team there.

One week later, my team and I were headed to Nerja, Spain for the STINT 'Mid-Year' conference. It was a refreshing time to get out of the daily grind. We reflected on the first half of the year, and regrouped for the coming months. It was awesome to spend time with other Americans our age who are experiencing some of the same things.
My friend Ted, who is teaching english in Spain, came to visit for one day!

Me and my roommates at the 'Balcony of Europe' in Spain. Mountains and beaches = awesomeness.

Straight from Spain, we flew to Turkey for another conference, one we were helping plan and host. It was a little adjustment switching from "attendee" to "host"! It was great to meet nationals in our company, and through out the conference, watch them plan and strategize for the coming year! My main job was the historian of the conference. I took many pictures and videos, which, unfortunately, I can't post due to security.
This is a picture of jewelry and lamps in Istanbul, Turkey. Everything is so colorful!

Working this conference opened my eyes to the possibility of working Conference and Events. It is something I have thought of doing before[In high school, I wanted to be a Wedding Planner!], but this was the first real hands on experience I've had in this area. Maybe this is the type of work God is leading me toward for next year?

As most of you know, the deadline for apply to reSTINT was March 1st. However, I was still not 100% sure where God was leading me [though, I had a good idea.] Since then, I have applied and am waiting to hear back whether I am excepted or not. Only the Lord knows!

I am going to try to utilized this blog more than I have [sorry for that!] so I hope that you [whoever you are] continue to read and I promise to keep more daily events posted! Some friends visited last week [shout out to Katelyn Roskamp and Kristna Pantoja].

They are both keeping their blogs more up to date as they study abroad in Sevilla, Spain. Kate shared her idea of pulling stories and quotes from her blog posts, to use when she scrapbooks! Smart!

Peace and blessings...

Mid-Year Spain 2011

Hello friends!

My team and I are here in Nerja, Spain safe and sound. Here is a verrrrry brief recap of the past few days:

Day 1: Bed bugs in our room. Gross!
Day 2: SUNshine! Worship! Rest!
Day 3: Bazaar - so cool! Almost everyone brought 5 items from their country and we did a swap! I got some pretty cool things :)
Day 4: Hanging out with new friends and spending time with our STINT coaches from the USA. They came to check-in, encourage and build us up during this week.
Day 5: MR. MIDYEAR - A fashion show of guys from a lot of the countries represented. It was pretty funny. It involved cultural apparel, dancing and random questions. The night ended with a dance party - which as some of you know, I love to DANCE!!!
Day 6: Ted [my friend who is teaching english in Spain] came to visit for the afternoon! We went into the Caves of Nerja! Really cool...
Day 7: FLYING ALL DAY... 3 countries in one day. Phew!

It was a great time to refocus and realize how fast the year is going! Thank you all for your partnership and friendship with me along the way.

Egypt: Day 4

Friday we toured a lot! I saw the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx and went to the Egyptian Museum. It was very exciting to see all these things. I did not realize the Pyramid were only discovered in the 1950's!

Saturday, I met several of the people in the office of Cairo. They were so friendly and welcoming. I took several pictures of the office and spent time with one of the women in the office for lunch. She shared with me how much she loves working in the office here. It was good to build a relationship with her and helped me see the importance of what I do back in Paris and how it helps field staff.

So far so good!

Some quotes from our region

STUDENT-LED

“Mohamed is a college student I had the privilege to share the Gospel with many times. After one year and a half of seeking the truth Mohamed decided to give his life to Christ.”

"This year is proving God’s grace and mercy. How unlimited are God’s blessings, that nothing of our weakness can limit the power of God as long as we trust Him.”

LEADER-LED

Other women who have heard about what’s happening in their city have asked if they can join in.”

CHURCH-LED

“This is my first time I heard about planting churches so I pray to God to give me a vision and power to start to planting a church in my area.”

“Praises to Lord Jesus Christ! He really likes me and other people. He is my Lord and Saviour. I thank him for this.” -

VIRTUAL-LED

“Since I gave my heart to the Lord, I feel lighter – it is like I got rid of seven mountains that were weighing down my back. Before, I beat and mistreated my wife, but now I have peace and I will never go back.”
